About Ashleigh VanHouten

I consider myself very lucky that I entered the world of health and wellness from a place of pure love and curiosity, rather than one of necessity. I did not struggle with an autoimmune disease, or food intolerances, or sickness. I’m simply someone who loves to eat, move, and learn, and I’ve channeled these passions into a career. For as long as I can remember, I liked being in the gym and experimenting with different training and food methodologies to see what my body is capable of.

My love of writing lead to my work with Paleo Magazine, where I develop features about people and companies doing incredible things in health and wellness, as well as nutrition research articles, product reviews, and more. This, in turn, lead to an opportunity to host the Paleo Magazine Radio podcast, where I get to interview some of the biggest names in health and wellness—authors, doctors, nutritionists, coaches, trainers, athletes, creators, and more—and share their expertise with the world.

My insatiable appetite for learning (and for eggs and avocado, but that’s another story) combined with my communication expertise gives me an opportunity to pass the knowledge along, so in 2014 I became one of the first 50 Primal Blueprint Certified Coaches in the world. Now, I support others on their own journey towards creating their own optimal, primally-aligned lifestyle, and there is nothing more satisfying than being a part of making someone’s life healthier and happier. Except maybe the perfect Paleo breakfast, but I digress…

I’m also lucky that my spare time looks a lot like my working hours: reading about health and nutrition, connecting in real time with smart people in the health and fitness world, experimenting with new workouts, nutrition methodology, and lifestyle design, and doing my best to get the most possible enjoyment out of my life. This includes hiking, swimming, and biking wherever I travel, training in jiu jitsu and powerlifting, and even competing at the national level in figure competitions in Canada.
